The Five Levers

What actually moves a Kashmir price

Season

The single biggest lever. Peak is April–June and the Christmas–New Year window; the same room can cost twice what it does in February. September and October are the value months — the weather is at its best and the crowds have gone.

Party size

The vehicle costs the same whether two people or six sit in it, and so does the driver. Four adults sharing two rooms pay meaningfully less per head than a couple. Solo travellers pay a single-occupancy supplement, because a room costs what it costs.

Hotel category

Three-star to five-star roughly doubles the accommodation line. In Gulmarg and Pahalgam the choice is narrower than in Srinagar and the winter premium is steeper — heating in the valley is not free.

Houseboat or hotel

A deluxe Dal Lake houseboat is priced like a good hotel, not like a novelty. In deep winter we often recommend the hotel and a single houseboat night, which costs less and sleeps warmer.

Duration

Each extra night adds a room, a dinner and a day of the vehicle — but not another set of airport transfers. The marginal night is cheaper than the average night, which is why five days rarely costs much more per day than four.
